Welcome, I am Norb Howell, grandson to Vollie Lee and Ethel Catherine (Durbin) Howell, and the author. I hope you find the information on this site as interesting as I did in researching our family history.
We start with Vollie Lee and Ethel Catherine (Durbin) Howell and work in reverse chronological order tracing their ancestors, both paternal and maternal. I have tried to verify dates of ancestors by using official birth or death certificates and census reports when available. I have documented six (6) paternal generations (Howell) and thirteen (13) maternal generations (Crawford) of Vollie Lee's ancestors and eleven (11) paternal generations (Durbin) and four (4) maternal generations (Estes) of Ethel Catherine's ancestors. And we have documented four (4) generations of descendants from Vollie Lee and Ethel Catherine.
The information on this site comes from several different sources. It started from a paper family tree created by my parents Ken and Juanita Howell, for the Durbin Family Reunions during the 1970's & 1980's. Over the years it has been expanding by input from different people at the reunions, Grandma Howell's family Bible, emails from family, and most recently internet research.
Some of the Durbin information comes from a book titled: "History Of The Diocese Of Covington, KY". This book was given to Ethel Catherine (Durbin) Howell, who then gave it to her son Kenneth Norbert Howell, who then gave it to me.
The family tree, where most of this information is stored, is a web site called MyHeritage.com. Send your email address to me at aeccad@aol.com and I will invite you to the web site, please let me know what your relationship to Vollie Lee and Ethel Catherine is. At that point you will receive an email invite to set up your password and you then have full editing rights to add/update information in the tree. You can also download FamilyBuilder software from MyHeritage.com and have a copy of the family tree on your local computer that is synchronized with the web site data.
Over the years there has been speculation that the Howell family is related to Daniel Boone. The best I can determine we are not directly related to Daniel Boone; we do have a family connection to Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone would be Vollie Lee's 1st cousin 4 times removed wife's grandfather.
Some family trees found on the internet have our Thomas Howell married to Susannah Callaway, Daniel Boone's granddaughter. Unfortunately, that is not the case Susannah did marry a Thomas Howell, son of Francis Howell, Sr. brother to our Thomas Howell.
I did learn that we may have an indirect connection to General George Washington. Although it is not a family connection it is a connection all the same. Col. Valentine Crawford, Vollie Lee's great-great-great-great-grandfather was an aid to General Washington, he acted as a secretary or an assistant.

A big thank you to our cousin Cyndy (Howell) Sloan. A lot of the pictures on MyHeritage.com and on this site came from her. She has been a wonderful resource for me helping find information, proof reading, and moral support.
And a thank you to all my cousins who have contributed to our family history through conversations and updating/adding information to the MyHeritage.com web site.
