Ambrose “Cap” Durbin, the son of John and Nancy Ann (Wagers) Durbin, was born in 1834 in Estill County, KY, USA. He was one of thirteen children, plus he had eight half brothers and sisters. Joseph married Mary Ann Howard on 24 May 1859 in Estill County, KY, USA, he was 25 she was 30. He passed away in 1903 at age 68.
It is possible Ambrose was a Captain in the Army, hence the nickname “Cap”. I have not been able to find any evidence that supports this fact. I did find information on an Ambrose Durbin who served in the Union army during the Civil War. He was a Private with Company A of the 7Th Regiment of the KY Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered in at Camp Dick Robinson, KY on Sep 22, 1861, and discharged Dec 16, 1861 at London KY. Since there are several Ambrose Durbin’s in KY at this time, I am not sure which is correct.
I also find reference to Ambrose Durbin, former sheriff of Estill County, KY. Perhaps this is where the nickname “Cap” come from. Again, I can find no evidence to support this fact.
Mary Ann Howard, the daughter of Clement Howard and Nancy Ann (Logsdon) Howard, was born in 1829 in Estill Co, KY, USA and died on 13 Apr 1878 in Lee, KY, USA at age 49.
Nancy A. (Unknown), possible marriage to Nancy A. (unknown), between 1878-1880. The 1880 census shows an 18-year-old Nancy A. listed as his wife; Ambrose is listed as 40. There are no known children from this marriage. There is a note in grandma’s bible that indicates Ambrose was married twice.

Interesting fact that both Thomas and Mary died in 1699. Speculation is a tragic event such as a fire or possibly an Indian attack.
It is believed Thomas came to the America’s with Lord Baltimore; I have not found substantial evidence of this fact.
